The incident took place in Westport on Sunday, Jan. 8 in the area of Green Farms and Hill Point roads.

When Westport PD officers arrived on the scene they found a man who said he had been jogging when he was struck by a vehicle and left in the roadway, said Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods.

The jogger suffered minor injuries to his shoulder, police said.

Woods said that while speaking with the injured jogger, a witness arrived and told officers that the suspect vehicle was at Cumberland Farms on Hills Point Road/Post Road East and the suspected offender was inside the business making statements about “hitting a jogger."

Officers responded to the Cumberland Farms where they located the vehicle and driver, identified as James Doyle, age 56, of Westport.

Doyle was arrested and charged with:

  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to carry a license
  • Failure to drive in the proper lane

He was processed and released on Promise to Appear with a court date of Thursday, Jan. 19.
